What is Sciatica?
Sciatica is pain down the back of the leg to the hip, knee or ankle. It is
caused by pressure on the L5/S1 nerve roots which are at the base of the
spine. Sometimes, the only pain the patient feels in heel pain, like a
stone bruise. It may be caused by direct pressure on the nerve, by a disc
problem or bone spur, or just by mechanical pressure or by spasm of a muscle in
the buttock, which sits over the nerve. It may be treated by chiropractic
care, acupuncture, or physical modalities.
Does Chiropractic help migraine headaches?
Migraine headaches are one of a number of types of headaches. Success in
treating severe headaches is largely determined by finding out which kind of
headache the patient has, because there are different treatments for different
types of headaches. Some of the types of headaches are: classic migraine,
cluster, allergic, hormonal, TMJ related, muscle tension, blood pressure
related, discogenic, vascular entrapment, neurologic and several others.
Your doctor has to be like a detective and discover all the clues and causative
factors and then use the proper treatment or work with a specialist.
What can you do for Jaw Joint problems?
Dr. Kathy has extensive training in this area. She worked in Dentistry for
14 years and is trained as a TMJ case manager. Chiropractors understand
the relationship between joints and the nervous system especially the brain.
Dentists understand the relationship of the bite. We attempt to bridge the
two areas. First, we evaluate the bite. Then we evaluate the jaw
joint relationship. We look for clicking and popping in the jaws.
The jaw joints can be adjusted to work better and therefore improve the
bite. When your jaws are not working correctly, they can cause severe
headaches, face and jaw pain, and tooth pain. It also interferes with your
neck and posture. We can work with dentists to help get your bite into a
better relationship which in turn reduces pain and improves function.
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient treatment for pain and medical conditions that has
been recently documented scientifically. We know that it directly
affects the brain by releasing pain relieving chemicals which are like opiate
drugs. It also releases muscle spasm and increases circulation. We
use it for severe pain, pneumonia, bedwetting, leg swelling and a variety of
other conditions. Acupuncture is based on the electromagnetic system that
is produced by the body. Acupuncture works when many other treatments do
not.
